For those of you who will be in the Honolulu area on Saturday, August 2, 2014 The Sake Shop will be having a special seasonal treat. It’s the Summer Sake Tasting & Sale! The tasting event starts at 5:00 pm, and ends at 8:00 pm. From the looks of it, there will be three different namazake (unpasteurized sake) to try; Dewanoyuki Nama Genshu, Tsukasabotan Senchuhassaku Reika Nama, and Ohyama Nama. All of these are tokubetsu junmai namazake.
In case you’re wondering, “tokubetsu” (特別) literally translates to “special” in English, and when it comes to tokubetsu junmai-shu, the “special”-ness of the sake usually indicates that the rice used for the sake is either more polished than normal, or the rice is of an exceptional quality.
